Serbia protests to Vatican over Kosovo Bishop

Of course there may be parts of the story here I am not aware of, but….

Serbian authorities have issued an official protest to the Vatican representatives in Belgrade, objecting the remarks made by the Roman Catholic Bishop of Kosovo Mark Sopi during his Christmas Mass that urged Catholic believers of Kosovo to pray for an independent Kosovo.

Here’s what Bishop Sopi said.

“The Birth of Christ can be compared to the birth of new reality in Kosovo,” said Bishop Sopi then proceeded to urge his believers to pray for Kosovo’s independence.

It seems to me that this is a purely political matter that has no room in the pulpit. So, I agree that it was not proper.

The Serbian Orthodox Church also objected. Which in and of itself is just as improper in my opinion.

Serbian Orthodox Church, which also joined the objection, expressed its regret that a religious service is being used for spreading political messages,

I’m sure no Serbian Orthodox cleric has ever used a religious service for advancing a political agenda either.
