Memphis Punk Rawk - Who are you?

In my highschool days and quite a few of the years that followed, I was a part of the “punk rock” scene back in Memphis. This mostly involved going to shows at the Antenna club and trying real hard to look just like everyone else who was trying real hard not to look like anyone else, or something like that.
Sometime in 1992 Channel 5 News in Memphis did a special on the youth sub culture in Memphis. Well, it looks like someone took that and put it on Google Video. Here it is. See Joe Birch do the intros and Greeley Kyle do the story. I actually knew a lot of the these people. I wonder what happened to some of them, others I have a pretty good idea.
Hat tip to Rachel And The City for first posting it.

I was quite surprised to see my work on the web! I really enjoyed putting those pieces together, and it was a treat to re-visit them.
what did you think when they aired?
How do you feel about them now?
I submitted those pieces to a contest that year, and the judges wrote back saying they wondered why I was wasting so much time on such a small segment of the community. But, I felt it was important, and wanted adults and the rest of Memphis to find the answer to the question on all their minds when they looked at the kids all punked out in early goth, piercings and wild hair.
What do you think?

Hi Greeley! I was quite surprised to see you commenting on my blog! I’m not sure I could answer all your questions. I didn’t actually see the piece when it first aired. I remember someone having it on tape and watching that a few years later. I thought it was an awesome and insightful piece. Thanks for giving us a chance to tell our side.
It’s strange to look back on it now though. I knew quite a few of those people, but have lost touch. I wonder where they are and what they are doing today.

That kid with the bad teeth and the huge nose in the still frame up there….Thats me; John Gintz. I am still just as ugly but I survived the drugs unlike many people I knew back then. Wife and two kids, graphic designer and music composer for film / TV / advertising and just about any multi-media project…I fared rather well I would say.
I was a presuming ass then and now I am simply an ass.

wow, John Gintz, that’s a blast from the past. I lived around the corner from you. Name’s Jim McDermott, smoked my first cigarette with you after we stole it out of your dad’s ashtray in his truck, remember?

Can we still watch the video on the web somewhere?

Sorry Anthony. It was on Google video which is dying a slow death. Unless someone posts it on YouTube, it is gone.

Thanks felix. It looks like it is back. It was certainly unavailable for a while.
