It was like watching paint dry. It was poorly filmed, poorly written and poorly acted. It just sucked. I kept watching it, in case it got better. It just never did. Very disappointing…..

[...] the Miami Vice movie. I’m afraid it doesn’t get any better with the puzzle of a movie The Good Shepherd. I know it’s going to be an obvious thing to say, but one piece of this puzzle thatdidn’t fit was the length. It really dragged out in a way that made it seem like De Niro was trying to stretch it out to “epic” length. A large part of the dialogue was really bad too. I mean bad enough to be on par with George Lucas. I have to give props to the actors though. The acting and camera work are the only pieces of this puzzle that make it viewable. Angelina Jolie and Matt Damon really pulled out good performances even with such poor material to work with. The appearances by Di Nero, Joe Pesci and Alec Baldwin were well done and clever. Even the overall story the script tells is decent. I wish it had been better. I wish the good pieces had fit better without the bad pieces. But in the end, I most wish I could have that 156 minutes of my life back. [...]

Well, Thick, gotta disagree with you here. I thought it was a great film, and it was shot beautifully. Michael Mann continues to put out amazing work. But, this from the guy that tried to tell me “Double Happiness” and “Party Girl” are great movies. . .

Well, I do have to admit that I watched it on my laptop which may have the ruined the cinematography for me. But I thought the acting was really bad and the script left a lot to be desired. Don’t get me wrong, it didn’t have bad actors. We all know what Jamie Foxx has done in films like Jarhead, Ra and Ali. Colin Farrel hass shown some talent too (Phonebooth, Hart’s War and Tigerland). But they just sucked in this. Plus, the plot was dull and predictable.
I suppose now you’re going to say you loved every (all 156) minute of “The Good Shepard”.
Oh yeah…..”Party Girl” sucks too. I just like it ’cause it had Parker Posey in it. Double Happiness on the hand still tugs at my sentimentality.
BTW - Great to hear from you Michael. You never write. You never call. I might have to come down there to Arizona some day to visit. My company actually has lots of projects going on down there, so it could happen.
