Yes, another one. I can’t believe they’re remaking “The Day The Stood Still“. This is just….wrong….
Twentieth Century Fox has staked out a Christmas 2008 release date for its upcoming remake of the classic SF movie The Day the Earth Stood Still, Variety reported.
The movie, which will star Keanu Reeves, was originally slated for May 9, but the film hasn’t begun production yet, with potential strikes looming in Hollywood.
Fox also has three other summer movies in the works, the trade paper reported.
The movie will update Robert Wise’s 1951 original, about the visit of an alien who warns Earth to change its violent ways or face destruction.

Actually, I like this idea. We need to be reminded of our failures as humans and what we are doing to each other, even if it’s from aliens. The question is whether they will show the violence of abortion and how many baby humans have been slaughtered! I doubt if Follywood would go that far. In the meantime, God is preparing a correction of the conscience of the world, which is predicted to occur soon. So we may not need spacemen to tell us how wrong we are, God will do it!
Come Holy Spirit, renew the face of the earth!
Keanu Reeves? He would make a terrific Gort.
Some remakes are good–Sabrina and Unfaithfully Yours come to mind. I could see some really good possibilities for updating TDTESS’s plotline. Of course, there are many horrible roads it could go down. I certainly wouldn’t hold out much hope for this one, if they’ve already casted “Ted Theodore Logan” as a main character.
Have you seen the dreadful updating of Flash Gordon on SciFi? Mind-numbingly awful.
Alas, some classics should remain classic. Remember when Ted Turner wanted to colorize all the black and white movies?
I wish I could be optimistic about the remake. There have been a few good ones, but more often than not they have beena disaster.
On the other hand my nominee for the role of Gort is Al Gore.
