Best Cologne commercial EVAR!

From the actor who brought us Ash and the guy who called his autobiography “If Chins Could Kill“, we get the best Old Spice commercial in the world. Who else can get away with singing “Hungry Like The Wolf” in such a cheesy way and still come off and suave?

YouTube Preview Image

Notice how the girls in the commercial are acting like cats or um wolves I guess, just like the in the original video….

To my mother on mother’s day

I want you to know that I love you. I want to thank you for all the things you taught me that I needed to know to get by in life…

Marc on the pot

Also to my Nana, my dear grandmother. I miss you so much, but I am happy in the knowledge you are watching over me.

The strange case of the time traveling Amazon package

491317839 A0Fe9D09Ca O
This is strange. Not only does my package from Amazon have to go through Memphis to get from Kentucky to here in the Nashville area. It seems it also had to go through 1969 in order to get from two days ago to now.

You can go to this Flickr page to see the whole thing. No photoshop type stuff is gong on here either. It is pure MAC OS X screen capture.

It also makes me wonder why since it is coming from Kentucky and is already in Memphis (not to mention the fact that it can time travel), why should I not expect it for five more days. HUMPH!

Uh Oh! I’m in big trouble now!

Yeah…My mom now has a blog. There’s only one post over there, which is actually something I posted here for here a while back. I guess I better watch out now. There’s no telling what she might reveal about me!

But seriously, if you have a notion to go welcome her to the blogospere.

Her blogin’ name is “Hippie Nurse“.

$400 haircut, heck I haven’t even spent $14 for a haircut

Right leaning people everywhere are making light of the fact that presidential candidate John Edwards has spent $400 for a haircut.

Somehow I don’t think my haircutting habits would float in the presidential race either. As the wife keeps reminding me, I need a haircut really bad. So it seems that while John Edwards is willing to pay $400 for a cut and style, I won’t even pay $14…

The states I’ve visited

I was just playing around with Omnigraffle and created the map image below that shows all the states of the US I’ve visited for one reason or another. Two states that are still clear that I have actually been to are Michigan and Minnesota. My visits to these states were just a stop over at airports. I don’t really count that.

States

  • Tennessee is my home. Even when I have been away for long periods of time, I have always been a Tennessee boy at heart.

  • Washington was my place of residence for almost a year in 2001.

  • I passed through Oregon while while moving to Seattle. I was working on a project in the Bay Area when I lived in Seattle, so I’ve passed through there often.

  • California is a place I visit often. My employer is based here, as well as a majority of customer sites I’ve been to in the past year.

  • Arkansas is of course right across the river from Memphis, so I had a lot of friends from there. I also drove straight across there a few times including when I moved to Seattle.

  • I’ve been Texas plenty of times. The first time I was in Dallas I was almost killed. I didn’t realize the faux pas at the time, but it certainly was a mistake to ask what they were thinking making BBQ out of beef instead of pork.

  • I passed through New Mexico on my way to Seattle. No cool stories. I just drove straight though.

  • I also drove through Arizona on my way to Seattle. Nothing exciting happened there.

  • On my way to Seattle, I nipped the bottom tip of Nevada. I was only there for the blink of an eye.

  • California is a common destination for me. My employer is based there, as well as no small number of my customers. On my way to Seattle, I took the long way around Los Angeles.

  • Oregon was the last state I went through during my move to Seattle. It was always the first state I would enter on my way back home to Tennessee.

  • Idaho was also on the way home back to Tennessee.

  • The first stop I made during my journey back to Tennessee was the Cracker Barrel in Ogden Utah. It was actually the closest on to Seattle at the time. I missed Cracker Barrel.

  • Colorado was also on the way home. I also went to a customer site back in August for a discovery session. They are still asking for updates on the design.

  • Kansas was flat.

  • I have an uncle that lives in Iowa. We’ve visited him a few times.

  • I have another uncle that lives in Indiana. I stayed up there with him when I was 13 for the summer.

  • I’ve been to Illinois a few times. The wife and I went to Chicago a couple of years back.

  • About five years ago I went to Stubenville Ohio for a conference at Franciscan University.

  • I am in Pittsburgh right now, so I’ve obviously been to Pennsylvania. I would like to see the east side of the state sometime.

  • I worked on a project In New Jersey back this past November. I can’t remember the name of the town, but it was due west from Newark. I wore my Braves cap my last day there in the mall and the airport. If looks could kill, I would’ve gone through a cats lives.

  • Virginia is a state I just visited briefly while attending my friends wedding. He lived just outside of DC. I’ve been there too, but it’s not really a state.

  • I went through boot camp at Fort Jackson in South Carolina. I have plenty of stories, but that’s for another post.

  • Georgia’s a great state. I was on a project down in Atlanta the end of last year. Plus that’s where the Braves are from.

  • I have a friend that used to live in Birmingham. Some friends of mine and I rove down there and spent a few days the summer between my junior and senior years in high school.

  • I actually lived in Coldwater Mississippi for a while. I was in the Mississippi National Guard for six years.

  • I was glad to leave Louisiana. No offense, I just didn’t like being there. It’s me, not you Louisiana.

  • Now what you may be asking if you’re a geography freak is a hard question to admit the answer to. When were you in Wyoming? Well I could say I was just testing you, that I left Wyoming in there to see if anyone would ask. I could lie. But the truth is much more fun. The truth is I just left in on accident. I didn’t realize it until after I had already uploaded the image to Flickr. To put it simply, I am just lazy to fix it. On the other hand, I could just say that I’m not fixing it so it’ll be an oddity, a conversation piece. But then again, why lie?

Tragedy in Virginia

It’s a horrible thing that has happened at Virginia Tech. I grieve and pray for the victims and their families.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord; and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen.

Random iTunes list

I’m bored…..But I haven’t been bored while in the shower the past few days. The way I overload myself with podcasts, I don’t get much time for music. Only the rare occasion that I am just driving down the street (too short a drive to get started good on a cast) or taking a shower (no, that’s not a rare occasion - the driving thing is the rare occasion) is when I usually use those files on the iPod that are considered “MUSIC”. Here’s a list of the last ten songs played. I’ve included ITMS links when the song is available. iTunes software is required for the links to work.

  1. Getting Away With It - Electronic

Electronic - Getting Away With It - Getting Away With It (Full Length Version)

The simple “electronic” melody and catchy lyrics of this one have always lifted my spirits and put a spring in my step. I don’t care what anyone else says about it!

  2. I Won’t Be Home No More - Hank Williams

Hank Williams - Hank Williams: 40 Greatest Hits - I Won't Be Home No More

I love Hank. I wish he was still around.

  3. I Have A Dream - 7 Seconds

    7 Seconds - The Crew - I Have a Dream

Nothing beats an anti-racism punk rock ballad.

  4. Games Without Frontiers - Peter Gabriel

Peter Gabriel - Shaking the Tree - Sixteen Golden Greats - Games Without Frontiers

Peter Gabriel is one of the greatest songwriters of all time. This is one of his greatest songs.

  5. Depression - Black Flag

Black Flag - Everything Went Black - Depression

Another punk classic, this one a little less upbeat.

  6. Close to Me - The Cure

The Cure - Staring At the Sea - The Singles - Close to Me

Have you ever felt boxed in, like there’s no way to get out?

  7. In The Ghetto - Elvis

Elvis Presley - Elvis Presley: The Top Ten Hits - In the Ghetto

One of the most touching songs ever recorded. You really feel for the mother.

  8. What am I Doing Hangin’ Round? - The Monkees

The Monkees - The Best of the Monkees - What Am I Doing Hangin' 'Round

Yes, it’s a Monkees song. But give me a little credit. It’s one written and sung my Michael Nesmith. i am not afraid to admit that I love to sing along to this one either!

  9. Mexican Radio - Wall Of Voodoo

Unfortunately iTunes doesn’t have anything from Wall of Voodoo except the album “Index Masters”. This means they don’t have “Call of the West”, which is the album this song was on. Bad iTunes! You are missing one great album.

  10. Ich Bin Ein Auslander - Pop Will Eat Itself

Pop Will Eat Itself - Dos Dedos Mis Amigos - Ich Bin Ein Auslander

Near the top of my favorite bands list is PWEI. This is a great song by them.

  11. So there you have it. Feel free to make fun of my eclectic taste in music all you want. I’ve had this problem all my life, so I m used to it. ;)

Header Image

A buddy of mine emailed me asking questions about the header image for the blog. By that I mean the one at the top of the page with the desktop and the computers and whatnot. That’s actually my desk at home. If you are more interested in it, take a look at the full thing over at Flickr. You can find it here. I’ve added notes to explain what each item is on my desk.

Indy gets a son

SCI FI Wire is reporting a rumor that Harrison Ford’s character from the Indian Jones franchise will be getting a son to share his adventures.

Indy Gets A Son In Indy IV?

Ain’t It Cool News reported a rumor that Shia LaBeouf (Transformers) is being cast as the adult son of Indiana Jones in the upcoming fourth installment of the adventure franchise.

The site based its rumor on “reliable” anonymous sources. The rumor has turned up elsewhere on the Internet as well.

David Koepp drafted the latest script for Indy IV, whose storyline has been kept tightly under wraps. Steven Spielberg is reportedly aiming to shoot the film later this year for a 2008 release.

No word yet on who may be playing the grandchildren.
